Is Chiropractic Safe?
Yes! Chiropractic is a
non-invasive natural way to relieve back, neck and joint pain as well as restore
optimal spinal, nervous system and joint function. Doctors of Chiropractic pay
at least 4 times less for malpractice insurance (about $1400/year) than a
General Practitioner. Malpractice insurers would not charge chiropractors so
little if chiropractic wasn't extremely safe. You can feel confident that you
will receive safe and effective treatment under chiropractic care.

What is the Goal of
Chiropractic?
The goal of chiropractic
is to correct subluxations and provide lifestyle guidance that will:
• Relieve pain
• Promote tissue healing
• Restore normal joint function
• Prevent joint deterioration
• Reduce the likelihood of re-injury
• Enhance overall health and well being
What is the Audible Sound Heard
During an Adjustment?
During an adjustment gases
from the joint space are released. It creates a sound similar to the sound of
gas being released when a soda can is opened. In general, hearing this sound
during an adjustment is good. It means that the joint is moving freely. Imagine
several soldiers in a field. When the commander calls attention the soldiers
line up. Similarly, an adjustment moves a joint into a neutral position. It is
not meant to stay in that position because a joint is movable. During an
adjustment, the ease that a joint moves into that neutral position shows the
health and mobility of that joint.
What is a Subluxation?
A subluxation is a joint that
no longer moves properly through a range of motion. Common causes of subluxation
include:
• Improper posture
and body mechanics
• Lack of exercise
• Accidents
• Mental and emotional stress
• Poor diet
• Environmental pollution
Subluxations oftentimes are painless but if not corrected lead to muscle,
joint, disc and nerve injury and eventual joint deterioration (osteoarthritis).
In addition, spinal subluxation can alter brain- body communication through the
nervous system resulting in organ malfunction and disease. Chiropractors correct
subluxations by manual adjustments and other natural therapies. The doctors
prevent recurrence of subluxations through lifestyle guidance including
exercise, posture and dietary recommendations.
Can I Tell if I Have Spinal
Subluxation?
Not always. A subluxation is like a dental
cavity--you may have it for a long time before symptoms appear. That's why
periodic spinal checkups are so important. Although it may be possible to know
you have a subluxation, it is rarely possible to be sure you don't. Regular
spinal checkups, like regular dental checkups, are always a good idea, and they
promote good health from the inside out.
Once you go to a Chiropractor, do
you have to go Forever?
No! Some people use
chiropractic to relieve symptoms while others receive chiropractic to improve
their overall health and quality of life. We try to educate our patients on the
benefits of chiropractic care and allow each person to decide on the treatment
that is right for them. Levels of chiropractic care include relief care (symptom
oriented), corrective care (correcting subluxation) and health enhancing care
(fostering optimum joint and nervous system function). Just like you would go to
a dentist forever to maintain good dental hygiene, we suggest that people get a
chiropractic check up at least four times per year.
This simple routine can help
prevent joint injury, joint deterioration and improve nervous system function.
